De acordo com Leon Cakoff, fundador do evento, os críticos de cinema estão perdendo o contato com o público, em vez de criarem um espaço para a discussão, o questionamento e a filosofia. Para discutir o papel do crítico de cinema e a própria figura do cinéfilo, a 31ª Mostra irá promover diversos debates sobre o assunto no 6º andar do shopping Frei Caneca, além do lançamento da edição brasileira do livro "A Rampa", do crítico Serge Daney (foto).

Enquanto a mostra não começa, a Central da Mostra, localizada no Conjunto Nacional, já está aberta para informações e compra de souvenirs da Mostra (como camisetas e copos). A partir do dia 13, a Central também começa a vender os pacotes de ingressos e as entradas permanentes.
